Problems loading Add-In

Oct 29, 2008 at 4:40 PM
Hi All,
before opening up a new issue, i want to ask teh community.

System: Vista Ultimate SP1, VS2008 SP1.

i just downloaded R2D2 and installed that.
(F# Sept' CTP & DX Managed RT already installed).

- Then i started VS2008,
- choose "New Project | VSLab",
- Went to "Add-In Manager" checked "VSlab", clicked OK and get an error:

------------------------------------------------------------
The Add-in 'VSLab' failed to load or caused an exception.

Would you like to remove this Add-in?
If you choose yes, the file it was loaded from,
'C:\Program Files\University of Pisa\VSLab\VSLab.AddIn', will be renamed.

Error Message: <Unknown Error>
Error number: 80131604

------------------------------------------------------------

What is going wrong here?

Thank you for your help,

- Karl

Hello Antonio,

Thank you for the swift reply!

VSLab installation succeeded with no problems.
I installed on VS2008 Team TestSuite Edition.

I would really love to use your great tool!

(the last time i used these kind of toolsets, it was during my time in university in the 80ties, compiling fortran77 code from commandline and using gnuplot scripts for visualisation...)

regards,
- Karl

Have you tried to remove and reinstall VSLab?

Hello Antonio,
looking at the vslab page it si noted that it had been updated 0n Oct. 30th.
So i downloaded and installed VSlab, but still get the same error...
When i installed it on another machine onto VS Shell, i always get an error like "could not add conetxt menu items to code window".
and in the F# Interactive Pane i get entries like
"Attempt 'N' to connect to Visual Studio over DTE (N-1 attempts left)"
and then a final error telling me that no connect could be established.
Unfortunately i have no access to the machine right now, i do not recall the exact messages.
Too bad...
I would really like to use this fine tool

It was your first installation of F#?

Have you tried to remove and reinstall VSLab?

Hello Antonio,

Thank you for the swift reply!

VSLab installation succeeded with no problems.
I installed on VS2008 Team TestSuite Edition.

I would really love to use your great tool!

(the last time i used these kind of toolsets, it was during my time in university in the 80ties, compiling fortran77 code from commandline and using gnuplot scripts for visualisation...)

regards,
- Karl

Hi All,
before opening up a new issue, i want to ask teh community.

Error Message:
Error number: 80131604

------------------------------------------------------------

What is going wrong here?

Thank you for your help,

- Karl

The problem seems to be a COM interop. Is the machine load high? Or the disk is trashing?

The retry happens when a COM IPC fails which is often due to slow response from VS COM server.

It is possible to recompile VSLab in order to make timeout and retries slower.

Ciao

Antonio

Hello,

First off, this tool looks awesome from the videos I've watched this morning.

I'm having a problem when I create a VSLab Demo project.  I get a message that "Managed DirectX is missing."  Also, I get the following error when trying to compile:

"The type referenced through 'EnvDTE80.Window2' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'EnvDTE80'."

I see that Managed DirectX has a version 1.1 available, but that the 2.0 release was killed in favor of what's bundled with XNA.  Do I install Managed DirectX 1.1 or XNA?

Also, regarding EnvDTE80: I've got three libraries listed as EnvDTE80, all having the same version number (8.0.0.0), but one has a file version number of "8.0.50727.1826 (QFE.050727-1800)" and the other two have a file version number of "8.0.50727.932 (QFE.050727-9300)".  Which one do I use?

thanks,

Tom
